I remember watching it live too, I was holidaying in Hossegor at the time on a surf trip! Will never forget it. Such a heavy moment to watch.

This is isn't about the media needing their blood and talk shows needing there ratings boosted. This is about a supreme predator of the wild just showing simple curiosity on another creature he was sussing out, being Mick. He talks about the adrenalin while waiting for a decent set and I'm sure it was throw the roof when he was fighting this beast off. FUCK GOING THROUGH THAT AGEN CREW

I had literally never watched a surfing competition in my life (and had no interest in ever watching one). Then one day I flipped on the tv and for some strange reason, I became transfixed watching the surfing competition that was being televised live. And 5 minutes later, Mick Fanning was attacked by the shark. I literally thought to myself that it had to be a scripted show that I'd accidentally stumbled across (when you see something like that, your mind doesn't believe that it's real, even if the alternate explanation is ridiculous). I remember when the wave covered him I sucked in and held my breath and just prayed that he wasn't dead. That wave lasted FOREVER. Everyone (as in me and the announcer) was so relieved when the wave passed and he was okay.

I think that swell rolling in and covering up what was happening made it 10x worse. All you could do was assume he'd been bitten in half. The timing couldn't have been worse...or better not sure

I was watching the live stream and the shark appeared and there were huge splashes just as a wave in the foreground rose and obscured Mick in-between waves and it seemed to take an age before he appeared again - and I really thought we were going to see something horrific when he did appear again. God bless Julian.
