This, and the other tips videos you have done, are outstanding! The detail is great and necessary. Bringing in other surfers such as Ethan, Felipe and Mick to show their outstanding technique is so helpful. And displaying what you are doing well, yet what you are still working on demonstrates grace, humility, and resolve that may be the most valuable and commendable part of all. So well done.
it looks like your lower body rotation and leg extension is excellent, however your upper body could be improved. Will you practice keeping your arms up like Ethan and Felipe?
I feel that counter rotation you have is because one of your arms goes back behind you for balance which then forces your trunk to over/counter rotate. This could actually lose you fraction of speed coming out of the lip as the over-rotation may prevent from driving down out of the turn by stalling you longer at the lip line.
I think you’re amazing surfer and it’s your year to become world champ! all the best on the tour and thanks for sharing you and Tom’s knowledge.
honestly i think video like this is almost useless for someone who tries to learn how to do a snap. it might be good for someone who is already reasonably good and want to get some extra style points. this tutorial sounds like same which i hear over and over again from the 90s "watch this way...do this with your arms...bla bla bla". we stand on the board with our feet, if our weight distribution is wrong, if we lean too much forward or back or to the side then it doesnt matter where we watch or what arms are doing it wont help. i think you might even find it beneficial for yourself to have a look at some more modern practices like for example Wave Ki
These are such great tutorials! They’ve really helped certain problem areas I didn’t know how to fix. Additional Question: On regular snaps and close out snaps, I sometimes end up unintentionally laying back when the snap comes around. Any tips to prevent that?
❤ excellent analysis and lesson co-instructed by you two :) im wondering what you would advise for someone who doesn't want to / cant do tail slide snaps, but wants to carve, and only wants to stall in the pocket (unless driving around sections to get back in the next pocket) to (if not, hoping to) get barreled on every single wave ever ridden, including waves that aren't hollow? to be fair, quite several of those snaps are transpiring out in front of an entirely viable head dip, cover up, face barrel (because thats all that fits) minimum :)? but for those that aren't living the perfect barrel dream (even if completely diametrically opposed by surfing actualities and pre and post session viewings of videos of your favorite surfers on perfect hollow tubes (to keep stoked and aspire to), then i suppose snap tutorials are probably a pretty good thing :) excellent work, you two :)
